Utilizing technology for safety

Proper use of new technologies has been proven to be effective to improve construction safety. In this area, we use technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the internet of things (IoT), wearable devices, radio-frequency identification (RFID), drones, and virtual reality (VR) to improve construction safety.

Designing and constructing for safety

The NCCS endeavors to eliminate injuries and fatalities. We attempt to achieve this goal by considering designs that impact workers, i.e., Prevention through Design (PtD).

Improving tools and equipment for safety

Improper tools and equipment may lead to an injury or fatality to workers. This research area aims to protect workers by improving personal protective equipment (PPE) and the application of construction automation and robotics.

Industry cooperation and adherence

The NCCS focuses on developing state-of-the-art research for solving practical construction safety issues. We work with corporate partners to understand the industry’s needs and develop solutions for the industry. We endeavor to achieve this goal by regularly organizing construction safety roundtable meetings and conferences.

Current Projects

This research aims to improve construction safety through OSHA and CDC guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic. Research results can be applied to enhance construction safety even after the pandemic.

This research proposes a framework for analyzing the causes of construction accidents. Current methods for Cause Analysis of Construction Accidents are discussed.

This research uses artificial intelligence to predict potentially hazardous areas in construction sites. Research results can be used to prevent workers from entering hazardous areas or increase awareness when they enter hazardous areas.

This research project applies AR to develop an interactive environment for construction safety training.

This project develops a new construction safety helmet to protect workers’ heads. Its function is unique in the marketplace.
