Biography —
Dr. Al-Bayati is the founding director of the Construction Safety Research Center and an associate professor at Lawrence Technological University (LTU). Previously, he was an assistant professor at Western Carolina University's Kimmel School of Construction Management. His research focuses on construction safety, particularly safety climate, safety culture, and minimizing subsurface utility strikes. He employs various data collection and analysis methods.
His work has been published in several prestigious journals, including the ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, the NSC Journal of Safety Research, and the ASSP Professional Safety Journal. Dr. Al-Bayati serves on multiple committees, such as the ASCE's Site Construction Safety Committee, the NORA Construction Sector Council, and as an editor for ASCE's Practice Periodical on Structural Design and Construction. He is also a member of the TRB's Standing Committee on Utilities and the ASSP's Prevention Through Design Standard committee.
Dr. Al-Bayati is a certified professional engineer in Michigan, an OSHA-authorized trainer, and an Associate DBIA™ certified. He has received the 2024 Outstanding Civil Engineer of the Year award by the ASCE Michigan chapter and the 2021 Thomas Glavinich Early Career Award by ELECTRI International.
